Pep and the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA) teamed up to launch a life-saving project, The Dry & Detect Towel Initiative. This is to encourage women to perform regular self-exams for early detection of breast cancer.

The Purpose Behind the Towel
The Dry & Detect Towel is not just an ordinary towel. Each towel has a tag that teaches women how to do self-exams properly. It includes a QR code linking to a special website with educational materials. This towel reminds women of the importance of knowing their own bodies and recognizing any changes early. The towel aims to increase survival rates by making early detection easier. When breast cancer is found early, treatment is more likely to be effective. Women can now build a habit of self-examination, keeping their health top of mind with the Pep and CANSA partnership.
Lorraine Govender, CANSA’s national manager for Health Programmes, expressed pride in the initiative. “We are honoured to be part of this life-saving initiative,” she said.
“Partnering with PEP allows us to reach more women directly in their communities, equipping them with the resources and knowledge they need to detect cancer early.”
Making an Impact Nationwide
Around 500,000 towels have been distributed to CANSA centers across South Africa. These towels act as a regular reminder for women to perform self-checks when they are most likely to notice changes, helping them stay proactive about their health.
Prioritizing Health with Women
Pep and CANSA’s Dry & Detect Towel Initiative offers women a simple, accessible way to prioritize their health. Turning self-exams into a routine, this initiative hopes to improve awareness and survival rates, reminding women everywhere that their health is in their hands.
