The foundation is named after Lindelwa Ngxokolo, the late mother of Maxhosa Africa founder Laduma Ngxokolo. Known for her entrepreneurial drive and her commitment to her community in New Brighton, Gqeberha, Lindelwa was determined to give her children the best education possible despite financial challenges.
“She had a huge ambition of being one of the greatest knitwear designers in South Africa,” Laduma reflected in his moving speech. He shared how his mother’s resilience, innovation, and belief in education shaped his own journey to becoming one of Africa’s most celebrated designers.
A Night of Culture and Luxury
The event unfolded on the rooftop of MaXhosa’s Johannesburg headquarters — a creative hub that combines the brand’s factory, retail space, design studio and offices. With the city skyline as a backdrop, the evening was nothing short of magical. Guests embraced the theme of cultural black-tie attire with a MaXhosa twist, showcasing bold prints, beadwork and statement African luxury looks.
Bringing charm and glamour to the night was actress, presenter and executive producer Minnie Dlamini, who returned from Los Angeles to host the evening. Guests were also treated to a bespoke three-course menu curated by Johannesburg-based chef Kelly Njokweni, who fused local flavours with fine dining flair.

The Auction Highlights
The highlight of the evening was the auction, which saw lively bidding for exclusive experiences and luxury items, including:
-
A luxury stay at Sun City’s Palace Hotel
-
Gold teardrop earrings by Nungu Diamond, first worn by Shaka iLembe actress Nomzamo Mbatha
-
A full MaXhosa jewellery set (necklace, bracelet, earrings)

A MaXhosa couple’s atelier service, offering a bespoke fashion experience
The auction room was filled with excitement and generosity, as guests rallied behind the cause of community development and education.
Driving Social Impact
The Lindelwa Foundation, launched in 2024 on Lindelwa’s birthday (18 August), focuses on education, creativity, and entrepreneurship. Its programmes include:
-
Modelling masterclasses to build confidence and opportunities for youth
-
Beadwork and textile workshops to preserve heritage crafts while creating jobs
-
Business and entrepreneurship training to foster long-term community growth
The foundation’s work ensures that young people are not only exposed to opportunities but also equipped with the skills to thrive.
Looking Ahead
At the close of the evening, Laduma expressed both relief and gratitude, acknowledging the challenges of organising such an ambitious first event. “It was not easy to pull off,” he admitted, “but it was a worthwhile experience that will continue to bear fruit in the lives of many.”
Guests left with excitement for what lies ahead for MaXhosa Africa. Laduma revealed that the brand will host a fashion show in November, followed by the highly anticipated 2026 MaXhosa Kulture Fest, which has become a firm favourite for lovers of African luxury fashion and culture.
The night ended on a high note as award-winning singer-songwriter Msaki took the stage, serenading guests with her soulful hits and getting the crowd to dance the night away.
Celebrating African Luxury With Purpose
More than just a fundraiser, the Lindelwa Foundation Auction Dinner was a celebration of heritage, luxury, and giving back. It reflected MaXhosa Africa’s philosophy that fashion is more than design — it is culture, community, and empowerment.
