Takealot is partnering with the Mpumalanga government to recruit 1,000 delivery drivers.
New jobs for township residents
This will bring new jobs and make it easier for township residents to access e-commerce services without traveling long distances. Drivers will support both Takealot and Mr D food deliveries, allowing residents to have items delivered right to their doorsteps.
Takealot’s head of external affairs, Tshepo Marumule said, “People need to know that they don’t have to go all the way to Mbombela to have access to what they need as they can have it delivered. ”
Prioritizing Safety for Delivery Drivers
Safety concerns previously limited township delivery services. Takealot is addressing this by working with local authorities and providing electric bicycles for safer, more flexible transportation.
Training and Opportunities for Young People
Takealot is partnering with companies to train teenagers on last-mile delivery roles. This effort also introduces local businesses to Takealot’s SME marketplace, supporting township entrepreneurs. Takealot recently launched its Township Economy Initiative, committing R150 million to Gauteng townships.
This initiative is part of a broader plan to uplift township economies and create lasting job opportunities.
