Uber Embraces Pride with Rainbow-Colored Cars

This October, Uber is boldly showing its support for the LGBTQ+ community by featuring cars on its app with the Pride flag.

Uber celebrates Pride Month

As South Africa celebrates Pride Month, Uber is shining a light on equality and inclusivity. This year, the 35th annual Johannesburg Pride will take place on 26 October 2024 in the lively streets of Sandton. The event marks 35 years since Africa’s first Pride march, which happened on 13 October 1990. It was a historic moment that helped shape LGBTQ+ rights across the continent.

In support, Uber has added Pride flags to the cars on its app. Riders will see rainbow-colored cars on the map, celebrating love, pride, and freedom in a simple, powerful way.

The message of Pride and Equality

Johannesburg Pride is set to draw thousands, all united to march, celebrate, and promote acceptance. Events like this make Uber’s support stand out, helping people feel seen and valued. As South Africa champions LGBTQ+ rights, Uber’s partnership with Pride sends a clear message, everyone deserves dignity and respect, both on the streets and through their platforms.

Tony West, Executive sponsor, SVP, Chief Legal Officer and Corporate Secretary at Uber said, “Pride at Uber is committed to making a significant impact for LGBTQIA+ people around the world. I’m inspired by the actions that the group is taking to create more inclusive experiences for our employees and the communities we serve.”

Get ready to march, celebrate, and make history at Johannesburg Pride Village 2024.
