The Inaugural Township Economy Awards 2024 was an unforgettable event that celebrated the achievements of entrepreneurs making a difference in their communities.
Inspiring Words from Leaders
The event was a gathering of visionaries, featuring powerful speeches and inspiring stories. Deputy Minister of Small Business Development, Ms. Jane Sithole, set the tone for the awards by reminding everyone of the importance of action. She emphasized that words without action are meaningless and called for all stakeholders to work together to unlock the potential of township businesses.
One of the standout moments came when Lizzy Mogale, a leader from Nedbank, highlighted the significance of the awards venue. She praised the organizers for transforming a space into a platform for hope and progress, calling it a reflection of what the township economy can achieve. Her words reminded everyone that growth and transformation are possible when people unite for a common purpose.
Celebrating Resilience and Success
The night also celebrated resilience and success, with entrepreneurs sharing their journeys and inspiring others to dream big. One of the highlights was the story of Sheldon Tatchell, founder of Legends Barber. He shared how he started his business in Eldorado Park and worked tirelessly to make it internationally recognized. He encouraged others not to look down on small beginnings, emphasizing that every step matters when building a brand.
The most remarkable achievement of the night belonged to Godiragetse Mogajane, founder of Delivery Ka Speed. He was honored as Male Entrepreneur of the Year, Youth Entrepreneur of the Year, and his business, Delivery Ka Speed, received the Transport Award. His dedication and innovative spirit earned him three awards, making him the star of the event. His success showed that hard work, creativity, and a commitment to excellence can lead to extraordinary results.
Thulani Ntshuntshe, the first-ever winner of the TEA Kasi Pitching Challenge, took the stage as a special guest. His journey from a pitching competition winner to a respected entrepreneur demonstrated the power of platforms like the Township Economy Awards to change lives. His recognition of the prestigious Chairman’s Award was a testament to his perseverance and impact.
A Celebration of Hope and Innovation
The awards ceremony was not just about recognition; it was a celebration of hope and progress. It highlighted the ability of township entrepreneurs to rise above challenges, create opportunities, and inspire their communities. The night ended with a message of gratitude from Bulelani Balabala, founder of the Township Entrepreneurs Alliance. He reminded everyone of the importance of innovation and collaboration in rethinking how businesses can succeed in townships.
Bulelani Balabala, founder of TEA, brought this incredible event to a close with heartfelt thanks to our sponsors, the municipality, and, most importantly, the entrepreneurs who rise every day to make a difference.
