Pat Mahlangu is an astute entrepreneur and marketing expert with a passion for crafting brands that excel. Pat discovered his passion for brands during his days as a student at the University of Johannesburg, where he co-founded a campus television station called Varsity TV.
This led him through the path of starting a digital platform called Pat on Brands and ultimately establishing the Lerato Agency in 2020.
Through his capable leadership, Lerato Agency has made great strides in the industry including delivering Brand Africa’s Most Admired Brands first ever virtual launch. The campaign entailed designing a seamless digital experience to integrate the stock exchanges of Nairobi, Lagos and Johannesburg as an integral component of the global launch.
Lerato Agency is also proud to have been part of a historical development when the team crafted the brand identity for SA’s first post-apartheid city called Lanseria Smart City.
Pat is an internationally certified Digital Marketing Professional (Digital Marketing Institute, Ireland) and holds a BCom Honours Marketing and a BCom Information Management.
He completed his MCom in Business Management from the University of Johannesburg (UJ), where he submitted his impressive and insightful Masters Research titled “Use of Social Media Big Data by South African Retailers to support marketing decisions”.

Nompumelelo Satsha (Storyteller)

Digital Marketing Strategist

Nompumelelo Satsha is the former head of Digital & Insights Lerato Agency with over 6 years experience in the industry. Her career started as digital marketer, earned & paid media junior specialist for an international Hotel & Resort group across Mauritius, Reunion Island, Turkey, China & Tanzania.

She also worked as the Artist Relation & Event Coordinator (Influencer marketing manager), earned & paid media buyer for MAC Cosmetics Sub Saharan Africa to date. Her portfolio included 10 countries in Africa, 3 of which were our major markets – Nigeria, Kenya & Ghana. Her success lies in fostering relationships with influencer brands like @cuppymusic & @majimb.o and creating friends of the brand, successful instore events in Nigeria, Kenya & Ivory Coast & increased engagement on Retailer & influencer platforms.

She has a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting & Taxation from The University of Witwatersrand.

Thebe Ikalafeng (Storyteller)

Everything about Thebe Ikalafeng is centred around Africa. Having been to every country in Africa, building brands across the continent and summitting the highest free-standing mountain in the world, Mt. Kilimanjaro, he lives and believes in the continent’s possibilities. He is passionately engaged in driving an Africa-focused brand-led agenda that shapes the continent’s image and competitiveness. He is widely acknowledged globally as the pre-eminent authority on brands in Africa and has been recognized by New African Magazine as one of the 100 Most Influential Africans.
He founded Brand Africa, an inter-generational movement to create a positive image of Africa, celebrate its diversity and drive its competitiveness, Brand Africa 100: Africa’s Best Brands, the only pan-African research and ranking of brands in Africa, to highlight and promote excellence in building brands in Africa and Africa Brand Leadership Academy (ABLA) to ignite and enable Africa-focused global brand leadership.
After a distinguished corporate career which started at Colgate Palmolive in New York, US and concluded as chief marketing officer for NIKE for Africa, during which he won over 75 awards in branding and marketing communication globally, he established the award-winning Brand Leadership Group and has worked on over 100 corporate, nation and political brands across Africa. Brand Leadership has been recognized by Fin Week Magazine as “Marketing Services Agency of the Year” in 2008 and was inducted into the Rebrand Hall of Fame for Excellence in Branding in 2015. He has judged awards on design, branding and leadership globally, including the Red Dot awards in Germany and St. Gallen Symposium ‘Wings of Excellence’ in Switzerland. He served as the inaugural vice-chairman of the Brand Council of Southern Africa and as the first African chairman of the Loeries, the premier advertising awards in Africa.
A fellow of the Institute of Directors, he is a non-executive director at South African Tourism, Cartrack Group and WWF South Africa. He has held directorships in the public and private sector, including a 15 years tenure on the board of Mercantile Bank Group and full terms on the boards of Brand South Africa, Foodcorp and Nike.
Ikalafeng holds BSc and MBA degrees from Marquette University in the USA, completed executive education at Harvard Business School in the US and is a Chartered Marketer (SA).

Khensani Mkhombo (Storyteller)

Brand Manager – Castle Milk Stout

Khensani Mkhombo holds a Bcom Honours Marketing Degree from UNISA and is currently the Brand Manager for Castle Milk Stout at South African Breweries (SAB).
Mkhombo who hails from Benoni has laid a solid foundation for herself within corporate sales, trade marketing and marketing.

Her career expands over several industries including the mining and Fast-Moving Goods (FMCG) industries.
Khensani describes herself as a passionate marketer who believes brands have the ability to shape, preserve and promote culture whilst solving real life problems that consumers face in their daily lives. Her work in the industry was recognized in 2020, when she was voted as the Innovator of the year within the trade-marketing department at SAB.

Some of her greatest inspirations are stories of triumph through difficult and complex situations, and it is this love that has led her to make deliberate efforts to tell the stories
of Africans through her work. Her work portfolio includes successfully leading award-winning campaigns such as the Castle Lite X Bathu campaign, Castle Milk Stout Ancestors Day campaign and most recently, Last Stories of Culture.

THEMBI SEHLOHO (Storyteller)

Marketing Director – Tiger Brands

Currently serving as the Marketing Director for Rice and Pasta at Tiger Brands SA, Thembi is a seasoned marketing specialist with a passion for meaningful and impactful brand work.

After graduating with a BCom-Accounting degree; she went on to build a formidable career in marketing spanning over 15-years. With the ability to run strategic and capital expansion project,  Thembi has landed accolades which include the following: 

  • Building the Mama KOO franchise which propelled the brand to being SA most loved brand, 
  • Maintaining Tastic’s position as the top brand within staple food,
  • And winning a Silver PRISM Award for PR Campaign of The Year, and Tastic TVC voted 2020 the best liked TVC as voted by consumers – Kantar #MyHeritagecampaign.

Thembi is passionate about leadership and mentorship and was recently awarded 3rd Positive Role Model Award – 9th Annual Gender Mainstreaming Awards.

She has solidified herself as a formidable and seasoned marketer in South Africa with vast experience in SA’s leading iconic FMCG brands which include; All Gold, KOO, Bakers, Tastic and Fatti’s & Moni’s.


Managing Executive: Brand Marketing and Communication : Vodacom

Recently appointed as the Group Chief Marketing Officer at Investec – a role he will take up in April 2022. Abey Mokgwatsane is the Managing Executive of Brand, Sponsorship and Communication at Vodacom. Mokgwatsane’s journey began as a marketing trainee at the brand experience company, the VWV Group. He then went onto join SAB as a brand manager for Castle Loud, a young adult multi-media property for Castle Lager. In 2003, he was appointed Brand Group Manager of Miller Genuine Draft and was tasked with launching the brand into the South African market.  

He was appointed CEO of Ogilvy & Mather South Africa in January 2012 where he led the digital transformation of the company through the acquisition of Gloo Digital and maintained the creative pedigree of the agency winning a record 3 Cannes Grand Prixs to stay the most creative agency in South Africa for 5 years in a row.  

Amongst his many accolades, Mokgwatsane has been nominated as one of Mail & Guardian top 200 young leaders in South Africa, and Destiny Man’s top 40 under 40. He is a member of the Vodacom Foundation Board and was recently recognised as one of the top 100 in-house communicators in the world by PRovoke Media, a global PR news and Insights organisation.

Hazel Shozi (Storyteller)

Consummate Professional and Public Speaker

Hazel Shozi is a consummate professional and public speaker with almost a decade of experience spanning in public relations, reputation management, communications, media relations and academic research.

Shozi is currently studying towards her Doctorate in Communication and Media studies at the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal, she also holds a Masters in Communication Management from the University of Pretoria, Honours and Bachelor’s degree from the University of Johannesburg, a Certificate in Management Advancement Programme from Wits Business School.
With a passion for media relations and communications, she has built a solid reputation as a successful leader and team player.
She started off her career in PR and progressed into media, where she spent a number of years working for top PR and creative agencies in SA.
Looking to spread her wings, Shozi then moved into the corporate sector, worked with several financial services giants and is currently in the Telecommunications space as a Communications Manager at MTN SA.

Within the industry, growth as a whole is paramount to Hazel, thus encouraging positive brand conversations in a world where automation is now the key driver for brands.
