Township Riders Now Own Scooters Thanks to Telkom and Delivery Ka Speed

In partnership with Telkom, Delivery Ka Speed leased 10 Honda scooters to township riders. The drivers completed the 12-month lease, securing full ownership of the brand-new Honda scooters.

A Year-Long Journey Comes to an End

On Wednesday, township riders celebrated a big moment. Telkom, a telecommunication company sponsored Delivery ka Speed, a food delivery company with 10 Honder scooters. Delivery ka Speed leased the scooters to township riders for 12 months in exchange for full ownership. Furthermore, the ownership has been transferred to them.

Godiragetse Mogajane, CEO and Founder of Delivery ka Speed commented, ‘ Our drivers are now asset owners.’

Mogajane further explained, ‘Exactly a year ago Telkom sponsored 10 Brand Honda Scooters which we leased to our township riders for 12 months and today we officially transferred the ownership to the drivers as they have completed their term. Now they can sell the asset(I hope not)… or lease it to another unemployed young person and generate income through this asset.’

How it all started

Exactly a year ago, Telkom sponsored 10 brand-new Honda scooters. Delivery Ka Speed, a company fully owned by a young, black entrepreneur, leased these scooters to township riders. The riders used them to make deliveries such as Telkom sim cards and routers to the community of Hamanskraal.

Mathebe Mhongo, Manager for Enterprise and Supply Development at Telkom Future Makers said, ‘We would like to ensure that Delivery ka Speed grows through our support, more jobs can be created and become sustainable.’

The Bigger Picture

This partnership is part of Telkom’s larger goal to help townships grow. Telkom’s plan, called the Township Strategy, aims to connect more people, create jobs, and support local businesses. To make this happen, Telkom invested R3 million in Delivery Ka Speed, with the help of Aions, Telkom’s ICT venture builder. This investment gave the riders more than just scooters—it gave them the tools to become successful business owners.

Changing Lives, Building Communities

The riders are thankful for the opportunity and have shared how this partnership has made a difference in their lives. Now that they own the scooters, they can run their delivery businesses more easily and help their communities grow.

This program not only empowers young people but also strengthens the township economy, making the future brighter for everyone.
