Burgers are loved by almost everyone around the globe so it makes complete sense that the world would celebrate International Burger Day. That very important day is May 28, which thankfully for Johannesburg there are some awesome burger joints to celebrate this day, so you can dig into as many burgers as you please.

1. Buns out

Founded by media personality, Maps Maponyane. Buns Out is a local burger joint that serves up mouth-watering burgers from their variety-filled menu including classic, veggie, gourmet, and even vegan options.

2. Mookie’s Munchiies

If you happen to be in the West Rand – check out Mookie’s Munchiies. A local burger joint that offers a unique burger experience. Founded by Culinary graduate and experienced chef, Amokelani “Mookie” Baloyi in 2018 in the township of Kagiso. It being a one stop destination for all age groups, it offers the best home-made burgers and fries with their beef patty being Mookies Munchies signature product.

3. Hudsons The Burger Joint

This elegant American Diner-style burger joint is an always the busy hotspot on Parkhurst’s 4th Avenue with a variety of filling 100% free-range beef burgers. Classics include The Wiseguy, with sweet pepper relish, jalapeño and chipotle chili paste and The Samurai, a mega 200g slow-roasted pork belly burger with hoisin sauce, while if you prefer the classics you can’t go wrong with the no-fuss Plain Jane.

4. RoccoMamas

Build your own ‘smashburger’ by ticking off your toppings from the long list and hand it over. Rocomamas is a sit-down fast-food joint, with a lively atmosphere boosted by colourful decor and classic rock playing solidly in the background. Service is swift and teenagers will relish the opportunity to order a burger piled high with unusual toppings like saffron chilli chutney, brinjal pickle, guacamole and blue cheese sauce.

Two Americans missed the taste of home so much that they decided to open a burger joint, BGR, which now has a home in Rosebank’s sexy new art hotspot Keyes Art Mile. Burgers come in three varieties – Cheeseburger, Hamburger or the lettuce-wrapped “Cardio” version. Ground beef patties using the best meat with no basting, super fresh buns and basic toppings is the simple formula which has made this fast-food-style joint such a hit.
