W&RSETA Joins Forces with YOBAs

The YOBAs proudly announces a new partnership with the Wholesale and Retail Sector Education and Training Authority (W&RSETA) for its 2025 edition. This strategic sponsorship marks a significant step forward in amplifying youth-driven innovation and entrepreneurship in South Africa’s wholesale and retail space.

A Shared Vision for Empowerment

Welcoming W&RSETA into the YOBA ecosystem represents more than a sponsorship, it is a meeting of shared values. Both institutions are committed to building an inclusive economy where young people have the tools and recognition to thrive.

“It’s a privilege to have W&RSETA join us on this journey,” says Pat Mahlangu, Founder and CEO of the YOBAs. “Their ongoing work to support skills development and entrepreneurship in the retail and wholesale sectors aligns perfectly with our mission to spotlight youth-led brands that are transforming communities and industries.”

Focusing on the Retail Frontier

As one of the most accessible entry points for youth entrepreneurship, the retail sector offers young people an opportunity to build sustainable brands from the ground up. From fashion labels and e-commerce platforms to township spaza shops and lifestyle ventures, the retail space is teeming with youth-led energy and innovation.

Through this partnership, W&RSETA aims to deepen its support for young entrepreneurs by not only celebrating their achievements but also investing in their long-term growth.

“Our sponsorship of the YOBAs reflects our commitment to driving inclusive economic participation,” says Mr Tom Mkhwanazi, CEO of W&RSETA. “We are especially focused on supporting young entrepreneurs in rural and township areas — those who are often overlooked but are critical to the future of our economy.”

Building for the Future

Mahlangu believes that partnerships like this are crucial in creating lasting impact. “We’ve always wanted the YOBAs to be more than an awards ceremony,” he explains. “It’s about validation, visibility, and creating real opportunities for growth. W&RSETA’s involvement reaffirms the integrity of our platform and the importance of what we’re building.”

About W&RSETA

The Wholesale and Retail Sector Education and Training Authority (W&RSETA) is a statutory body focused on advancing skills and development within South Africa’s wholesale and retail industries. Through accredited programmes, mentorship initiatives, and entrepreneur support, W&RSETA plays a vital role in driving sustainable economic transformation.
