Pat on Brands partners with Telkom to Spotlight the Evolution of Heritage Brands
The Pat on Brands Dialogues return this September with a powerful theme: “The Evolution of Heritage Brands.” Made Possible by Telkom, this year’s edition promises to be one of the most impactful yet, bringing together South Africa’s leading brand custodians, marketers, and culture shapers to unpack how iconic brands have stood the test of time while continuing to evolve in a fast-changing marketplace.
Born out of the culture of storytelling, the Pat on Brands Dialogues serve as a platform where brand leaders share authentic narratives of resilience, innovation, and impact. The conversations explore the intersection of culture, business, and branding with the goal of inspiring new ways of thinking about the role of brands in society.
Telkom at the Heart of the Dialogue
As one of South Africa’s most recognised heritage brands, Telkom’s support underscores the importance of investing in conversations that celebrate heritage, innovation, and the enduring value of brands in shaping our society. For decades, Telkom has been at the centre of keeping South Africans connected – a role that has evolved with the advent of mobile, fibre, and digital-first solutions.
Speaking ahead of the dialogue, Gugu Mthembu, Chief Marketing Officer at Telkom, said:
“As a heritage brand, Telkom is deeply woven into South Africa’s collective memory. Over the years, we have been at the heart of storytelling, connecting South Africans and bridging distances between people, towns, and generations. This Heritage Month, we celebrate Telkom’s ability to remain relevant while staying true to its legacy, upholding our commitment to access and shared human connection. As we continue to evolve and embrace innovation and advancing technologies, our values remain constant. We are committed to creating products and platforms that not only reflect our shared identity but also help shape the future. Pat on Brands Dialogue is one of those platforms.”

Joining Mthembu on the stage will be Sbusiso Kumalo, CMO at African Bank, which celebrates 50 years this year, and Mphothe Elizabeth Mokoena, Executive Marketing Director at Unilever South Africa, home to some of the country’s most beloved heritage brands. Together, these leaders will share valuable insights into how brands can balance tradition with innovation in a way that builds trust and long-lasting relevance.
