On Sunday, July 27, 2025, the beloved 702 Walk the Talk is to make a victorious return, delivering a memorable celebration of resiliency, community, and tradition. This year’s event, which is being proudly hosted by Freedom Park in collaboration with the City of Tshwane, is significant as it commemorates the 45th anniversary of 702.
A Journey Through History: Walking Between Iconic South African Landmarks
This year’s walk gives participants the chance to take part in a group journey of recollection and optimism, set against the backdrop of two of South Africa’s most recognizable landmarks: the recently revitalized Southern Lawns of the Union Buildings and the historic Freedom Park. It is more than simply a stroll, but an appreciation of the progress our country has made and a look ahead.
Participants can choose from three distances, each crafted to honour different aspects of our national identity:
The 4km Fun Walk offers a light-hearted route perfect for families and casual walkers.
The 6.7km Mandela Tribute Walk pays homage to Nelson Mandela, embodying the values of unity and perseverance.
The 8km Challenge Walk is ideal for those seeking a more vitalizing experience, symbolizing the ongoing pursuit of progress.
Registration fees are as follows:
8km / 6.7km: R360 per adult and R200 for children aged 12 and under.
4km: R300 per adult and R190 for children aged 12 and under.
Children under 3 may participate free of charge when accompanied by a registered adult.
To ensure easy access to the 702 Walk the Talk, organisers have arranged specialised Park & Ride services. Buses will start operating at 6:00 AM, with the final return trip from the Union Buildings scheduled for 4:30 PM. The service will cost R130 from Johannesburg pickup points—Mall of Africa, Montecasino, Melrose Arch, and Sandton City—and R60 from Pretoria locations including Unisa, Menlyn, and Fountains Valley.
The event promotes corporate and group entries of 15 or more in the spirit of unity, offering huge families, organizations, and enterprises a meaningful chance to walk together. Participation is even more accessible thanks to a simplified online registration method that handles multiple registrations in a single transaction.
Walking Together for Legacy, Unity, and a Brighter Future
Reflecting on the importance of this year’s walk, Mzo Jojwana, Chief Content Officer at Primedia Broadcasting, shared: “As we celebrate 45 years of 702, the Walk the Talk embodies our commitment to community and connection. Together, we walk not just for ourselves, but for the legacy of those who fought for our freedom and the future we are building together.”
The 2025 edition of 702 Walk the Talk promises not only scenic routes and joyful fellowship but also a deep sense of purpose — walking for unity, legacy, and the shared hope of a better tomorrow.
