Canal+ and Samsung Expand DStv Stream Access Across Africa

DStv Stream to Come Pre-Installed on Samsung Smart TVs in 18 African Countries. Canal+, the new owner of MultiChoice Group, has announced a strategic partnership with Samsung Electronics that will see the DStv Stream app pre-installed on all new Samsung Smart TVs across 18 African countries from 1 June 2026.

The rollout covers key English and Portuguese-speaking markets, including South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Botswana, Mozambique, and Namibia. The move marks the first time that the DStv Stream application will be pre-installed on Samsung Smart TVs across these territories.

Strengthening MultiChoice’s Streaming Ecosystem

The partnership forms part of Canal+’s broader strategy to accelerate the growth of MultiChoice’s streaming and over-the-top (OTT) services following its R54 billion acquisition of the broadcaster in 2025.

By making the DStv Stream app available directly from the home screen of Samsung Smart TVs, customers will enjoy easier access to content without the need to download or install the application separately.

The initiative is expected to increase the reach of DStv Stream while responding to the growing demand for digital and on-demand viewing across the African continent.

Improved Access to Premium Content

Samsung Smart TV users will gain seamless access to DStv Stream’s extensive content offering, including live sports, local entertainment, international series, movies, and news programming.

The platform’s sports content includes major global events such as the FIFA World Cup, English Premier League football, and international rugby competitions, which continue to attract millions of viewers across Africa.

Canal+ said the integration aims to provide customers with a more convenient and user-friendly viewing experience.

A Milestone in the Canal+ and Samsung Relationship

According to David Mignot, Chief Executive Officer of MultiChoice Group, the announcement represents an important step in the expanding relationship between Canal+ and Samsung.

“We are delighted to extend our longstanding partnership with Samsung across new English and Portuguese-speaking African countries. It marks a significant milestone in the synergies created by the combination of Canal+ and MultiChoice Group,” said Mignot.

He added that increasing accessibility to content remains a priority as consumer viewing habits continue to evolve.

“By expanding the availability of our applications on Samsung Smart TVs across key African markets, we are making it easier for millions of customers to access our content and services,” he said.

Building on a Global Partnership

The latest agreement builds on an existing partnership between Canal+ and Samsung that already spans more than 40 markets across Europe, French-speaking Africa, and Asia.

The expansion into English and Portuguese-speaking African territories further strengthens the collaboration and demonstrates both companies’ commitment to delivering premium entertainment experiences to consumers.

Canal+ Advances Its Streaming Ambitions

The announcement comes amid significant changes to MultiChoice’s streaming operations under Canal+’s ownership.

Earlier this year, Showmax was integrated into DStv Stream as part of a broader effort to streamline the group’s digital offerings and strengthen its position in Africa’s competitive streaming market.

Canal+ has also indicated that it is exploring the deployment of its own streaming platform in Africa, potentially incorporating content partnerships with international players such as Apple TV and HBO Max.

Looking Ahead

As streaming consumption continues to rise across Africa, the partnership between Canal+ and Samsung is expected to play a key role in expanding access to digital entertainment and sports content.

The collaboration highlights Canal+’s commitment to driving innovation, enhancing customer convenience, and positioning DStv Stream as one of Africa’s leading streaming platforms.
