Absa Youth Entrepreneurship Fund: Apply by 31 October

The Absa Youth Entrepreneurship Fund is accepting applications from young South African entrepreneurs seeking grant funding and support to develop their businesses. Applications close on 31 October 2026 at 23:59, offering eligible founders an opportunity to access capital, mentorship and practical business development support.

Funded through Absa’s CSI Trust and implemented by Tshiamo Foundation, the programme supports young entrepreneurs working to turn viable ideas and early-stage businesses into sustainable enterprises.

For this week’s Opportunity Tuesday, here is what aspiring applicants need to know.

Who can apply for the Absa Youth Entrepreneurship Fund?

The fund targets South African entrepreneurs aged 18 to 35 with early-stage, black-owned businesses.

According to the programme information, it accommodates founders at different points in their business journey. These include entrepreneurs with viable ideas, businesses showing early traction and young enterprises ready to grow.

The programme focuses on founders building businesses that can create employment and contribute to their communities. Applicants will be assessed on both their readiness as entrepreneurs and the maturity of their businesses.

Successful applicants will be placed into one of three stages: Ideation, Start-up or Early Growth. These stages run concurrently, with support matched to each business’s needs.

What support does the fund offer?

The Absa Youth Entrepreneurship Fund combines financial support with business development assistance. Selected entrepreneurs can receive:

  • Conditional grant funding, released in phases against agreed business plans and milestones.
  • One-on-one strategic support to help founders make business decisions.
  • Financial management and governance support to strengthen business operations.
  • Leadership and management development as their businesses grow.
  • Business model and customer discovery support to refine their offering.
  • Market access support and peer learning through the programme’s entrepreneurship ecosystem.

Tshiamo Foundation manages recruitment, selection, grant administration, mentorship and ongoing business support.

Absa contributes funding, market access opportunities and connections within its broader entrepreneurship ecosystem.

Is the funding a loan?

No. The programme provides non-repayable grants and does not take equity in participating businesses.

However, grant payments are conditional and released in phases. Selected entrepreneurs must participate actively, work towards agreed milestones and provide progress updates linked to the release of funding.

The published programme information does not specify a grant amount per business. Applicants should therefore avoid assuming a fixed funding allocation and direct funding questions to the programme team.

How does Social Impact Payback work?

The programme also includes a Social Impact Payback concept, encouraging supported entrepreneurs to help others access opportunities.

This could involve mentoring future participants, sharing skills with local entrepreneurship initiatives or contributing to community activities.

Absa’s FAQ describes this contribution as voluntary and makes clear that it is not a financial repayment mechanism.

Absa Youth Entrepreneurship Fund application dates

Applications opened on 29 September 2026. The remaining programme timeline is:
