Ster-Kinekor Tyger Valley will reopen on Friday, 9 October 2026, following a refurbishment that brings premium cinema, luxury seating, family entertainment and virtual reality together at the Western Cape shopping centre.
The upgraded complex introduces four experiences: APEX Cinema, Cine Prestige, Kids’ Cinema and the SKX-PERIENCE Free-Roam VR Arena. Bookings are already open ahead of the launch.
For Ster-Kinekor, the revamp represents a broader approach to the cinema outing. Visitors will be able to choose between watching a blockbuster on a larger screen, enjoying a luxury movie night, taking children to a dedicated auditorium or joining an interactive gaming experience.
APEX Makes Its Debut at Ster-Kinekor Tyger Valley
The reopening marks the debut of APEX, Ster-Kinekor’s own premium large-format cinema experience.
Its auditorium features a wraparound screen extending close to the walls and ceiling, paired with 4K laser projection for brighter images and richer detail.
An advanced 16.1-channel sound system, with subwoofers positioned around the auditorium and behind the screen, completes the format. Together, these features are designed to create a more immersive viewing experience.
Cine Prestige Brings Luxury to Movie Night
The revamped complex also includes Cine Prestige, the format Ster-Kinekor describes as the “business class” of cinema.
Moviegoers can relax in leather recliners, use a dedicated lounge and have drinks and snacks delivered to their seats. A limited Doppio Zero menu adds a dining option to the experience.
The format gives visitors another way to plan an evening out, combining food, comfort and a film in one venue.
A Dedicated Cinema for Children
Families will have access to a colourful Kids’ Cinema with beanbag seating, activity tables and a dedicated snack counter.
Ster-Kinekor also positions the space as an option for children’s birthday parties, extending its use beyond regular movie screenings.

Virtual Reality Adds an Interactive Experience
The SKX-PERIENCE Free-Roam VR Arena introduces gaming to the revamped complex.
According to Ster-Kinekor, it is Africa’s first free-roam VR arena inside a cinema complex. Up to six players can move through virtual environments, with experiences ranging from tactical games to underwater adventures and encounters with life-size dinosaurs.
The attraction is listed for ages 12 and older.

A Broader Entertainment Offering
From a brand perspective, the Tyger Valley refurbishment shows how Ster-Kinekor is expanding the reasons people might visit a cinema complex.
The four formats cater to different occasions and audiences, from family outings to premium screenings and group gaming. The approach gives the brand more opportunities to connect with customers through experiences beyond a conventional movie ticket.
