HUAWEI has announced the FreeBuds 7, the successor to its popular FreeBuds earphone range. The new wireless earbuds feature a redesigned look, brighter colour options, upgraded active noise cancellation and support for the company’s NearLink 2.0 audio technology.
The FreeBuds 7 announcement comes ahead of HUAWEI’s upcoming product showcase in Munich, where the company is expected to focus on its Watch GT 7 range. HUAWEI has confirmed that the new earbuds will launch in China next month alongside its third-generation Mate triple-foldable smartphone.
According to Glitched, the Chinese launch is expected to take place on 7 September. HUAWEI has not yet confirmed when the FreeBuds 7 will be released internationally.
A lightweight new design
The HUAWEI FreeBuds 7 feature a semi-in-ear design and weigh only 4.3 grams per earbud. The lightweight construction is intended to make the earphones more comfortable to wear during longer listening sessions.
The earbuds will be available in four colour options:
Sunlight Orange.
Midsummer Purple.
Moonlight White.
Starry Black.
The brighter finishes give the new earbuds a more distinctive appearance compared with the usual black, white and metallic options found across the wireless earphone market.

Improved noise cancellation
HUAWEI says the FreeBuds 7 include upgraded active noise cancellation technology. The improvements are aimed particularly at busy and noisy environments, including aeroplanes, trains and other forms of public transport.
Active noise cancellation works by reducing surrounding sounds, allowing users to focus more clearly on music, podcasts and calls. The performance of the feature will likely depend on factors such as fit, the listening environment and the final software configuration.
NearLink 2.0 audio technology
One of the biggest features of the FreeBuds 7 is support for HUAWEI’s NearLink 2.0 audio technology.
HUAWEI says the technology supports speeds of up to 16 Mbps. The additional bandwidth over standard Bluetooth connectivity allows the earbuds to stream 24-bit, 48 kHz lossless audio.
This could make the FreeBuds 7 an appealing option for listeners who prioritise higher-quality wireless audio. However, users will need compatible devices and suitable content to take full advantage of lossless streaming.
China launch confirmed, global release unknown
The HUAWEI FreeBuds 7 are expected to launch in China on 7 September alongside the company’s third-generation Mate triple-foldable phone. HUAWEI has not confirmed a global release date or international pricing.
The company’s new products often arrive in international markets after their initial Chinese launch. If the FreeBuds 7 follow a similar schedule, a global release could take place later in the year, although November remains an estimate rather than a confirmed launch date.
More information is expected from HUAWEI as it prepares for its upcoming Munich Innovative Product Launch, which will showcase the Watch GT 7 range and potentially provide further details about the company’s wider product plans.
For now, the FreeBuds 7 represent an interesting upgrade to HUAWEI’s earphone line-up, combining a lighter semi-in-ear design with brighter colours, improved noise cancellation and higher-bandwidth audio support.
