Why Azzaro Chose Kwenzo Ngcobo as Its New Face

Luxury fragrance brand Azzaro has appointed award-winning South African actor Kwenzo Ngcobo as its new local brand ambassador, marking a strategic move to strengthen its presence in the South African market while connecting with a younger generation of consumers.

Ngcobo will front Azzaro’s upcoming local campaign for Forever Wanted Absolu, the latest addition to the brand’s Wanted fragrance collection.

A Brand Looking for Authentic Connection

Brand ambassadors have become an important part of luxury marketing, helping global brands build authentic connections with local audiences.

For Azzaro, selecting Kwenzo Ngcobo is about more than just star power. His rising influence, unique style, and strong bond with South African audiences perfectly match the brand’s vibe of honoring men who embrace their individuality and live with confidence.

Richard Smith of L’Oréal Luxe South Africa said the appointment represents an important milestone for the brand.

“We are incredibly excited to welcome Kwenzo to the Azzaro family. This move marks an important milestone for the brand as we solidify our presence in the local market and connect with a new generation of Wanted men. Kwenzo embodies the Azzaro attitude effortlessly, making him a natural fit for the brand.”

The campaign forms part of Azzaro’s broader positioning around confidence, sophistication and bold self-expression.

Why Kwenzo Ngcobo?

Born in Izingolweni, KwaZulu-Natal, Ngcobo graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Drama from the Durban University of Technology before beginning his acting career in theatre.

He rose to national prominence through his breakout role as Qhawe Zulu in the hit Showmax series The Wife, before delivering acclaimed performances in productions including Soon Comes Night and Scandal!.

His performances have earned him recognition as one of South Africa’s most respected actors, including the Best Actor in TV award at the Simon Mabhunu Sabela KZN Film and TV Awards.

Alongside his acting talent, Ngcobo has made a name for himself through his authenticity, humility, and effortless style-  traits that luxury brands are increasingly seeking in their ambassadors.

Introducing Forever Wanted Absolu

Ngcobo’s first campaign will showcase Azzaro Forever Wanted Absolu, described as the most luxurious fragrance in the Wanted collection to date.

Centered on elegance, mystery, and confidence, this fragrance is crafted for men who exude boldness without sacrificing sophistication. The brand claims it delivers up to 24 hours of lasting intensity, marking the newest chapter in the Wanted fragrance collection.

Speaking about the partnership, Ngcobo said the collaboration felt like a natural extension of his own journey.

“I’m incredibly excited to partner with Azzaro. The brand has a unique, daring energy and a sophisticated character that really matches my personal style and journey—always moving forward but staying true to where I come from. I’m thrilled to embody the spirit of the Azzaro Wanted man. Umuntu ngumuntu ngabantu.

His emphasis on remaining connected to his roots while embracing success mirrors a growing consumer preference for authenticity over aspiration alone.

More and more, consumers are drawn to ambassadors who reflect their culture, experiences, and aspirations.

Instead of just picking a well-known celebrity, Azzaro chose someone whose path is from a small town in KwaZulu-Natal to becoming one of South Africa’s most respected actors, who embodies ambition, resilience, and self-belief.
