South African telecoms giant Vodacom has announced a strategic partnership with Amazon South Africa, bringing Amazon Prime to selected mobile and broadband customers as part of its growing portfolio of value-added digital services.
The collaboration marks another step in Vodacom’s evolution from a traditional connectivity provider into a digital lifestyle platform, giving customers access to entertainment, shopping and delivery benefits through a single subscription.
Amazon Prime Comes to Selected Vodacom Customers

From August 2026, customers signing up for qualifying Home Internet, Mobile Broadband and Fibre packages will also become eligible.
The subscription structure varies across plans:
- Red Flexi customers receive a three-month Amazon Prime trial.
- Red Core customers enjoy a 12-month trial before standard billing begins.
- After the trial period, Amazon Prime will cost R59 per month.
- Red VIP, Home Internet and Fibre customers will continue receiving Prime benefits for as long as they remain eligible.
Vodacom has also confirmed that prepaid customers will be able to subscribe to Amazon Prime using airtime, making the service more accessible to a wider customer base.
More Than Just Video Streaming
While many South Africans associate Amazon Prime with Prime Video, the subscription includes a much broader suite of digital services.
Subscribers gain access to:
- Prime Video’s growing catalogue of movies and series.
- Shopping discounts and exclusive member deals.
- Early access to sales events.
- Same-day and next-day delivery in selected locations.
- Gaming benefits and a monthly Twitch channel subscription through Amazon Luna.
The bundle is designed to combine entertainment, e-commerce and convenience into a single monthly subscription.
Building on an Existing Relationship
The announcement builds on an existing collaboration between the two companies.
Vodacom first introduced Prime Video to South African customers in 2020, followed by the launch of Prime Video Mobile Edition in 2022.
The latest agreement significantly expands that relationship by introducing the full Amazon Prime ecosystem across qualifying Vodacom customer segments.
Competing Through Customer Value
With consumers increasingly seeking greater value from their monthly subscriptions amid ongoing economic pressures, telecom operators are using bundled digital services to differentiate themselves in a competitive market.
For Vodacom, integrating Amazon Prime strengthens its entertainment and lifestyle offering while helping to improve customer retention and engagement.
For Amazon, the partnership provides another opportunity to deepen its presence in South Africa following the launch of its local marketplace two years ago, extending its reach through one of the country’s largest mobile networks.
A Growing Trend in Telecom
The partnership reflects a broader global trend where mobile operators are moving beyond voice and data to bundle streaming platforms, shopping memberships and digital services into their products.
As competition intensifies, value-added subscriptions like Amazon Prime are becoming an increasingly important part of how telecom providers attract and retain customers.
For South African consumers, the result is a more comprehensive digital experience that combines connectivity, entertainment and online shopping under one subscription.
