Standard Bank retains title as Africa’s Most Valuable Banking Brand for fifth year

Standard Bank has once again been ranked as Africa’s and South Africa’s Most Valuable Bank Brand, marking its fifth consecutive year at the top, according to Brand Finance.

The latest rankings show that the bank’s brand value increased by 19% year-on-year, rising from R37.8 billion to R45 billion. The growth reflects ongoing performance across key metrics assessed by Brand Finance, including brand strength, financial performance, and stakeholder perceptions.

Measuring brand value and performance

Brand Finance evaluates more than 5,000 of the world’s largest brands annually across multiple sectors. Its methodology considers a combination of financial data and qualitative factors such as customer perception and brand positioning.

Standard Bank’s continued ranking suggests consistency in how the brand is perceived across its markets, as well as its ability to maintain relevance in a competitive banking environment.

‘Not something we take for granted’

Group Chief Executive Sim Tshabalala welcomed the achievement, saying the bank would remain focused on driving growth in Africa.

“Five consecutive years as Africa’s Most Valuable Banking Brand is not something we take for granted. The recognition affirms that our clients, partners, and communities across the continent continue to place their trust in us. In line with our purpose, ‘Africa is our home, we drive her growth’, we remain committed to driving sustainable development on the continent.”

Echoing, Group Chief Operating Officer Margaret Nienaber said the organisation’s longevity is linked to its relationships with clients and stakeholders, as well as its internal workforce.

“We are deeply grateful to every employee who contributes to our success and to every client who continues to have confidence in our abilities to provide solutions for their needs,” she said.

Continued international recognition

The Brand Finance ranking adds to other recent global recognitions for Standard Bank. The group has been included in rankings by Forbes, TIME Magazine, and Newsweek, which assess companies on criteria such as workplace environment, performance, and trust.

Sustained position in a competitive sector

Standard Bank’s fifth consecutive top ranking reflects a period of sustained brand performance within the banking sector. As financial institutions continue to adapt to shifting economic conditions and customer expectations, brand strength remains a key differentiator in maintaining market position.
