South African gaming is stepping into an exciting new chapter. For over twenty years, rAge has been the country’s most iconic gaming event, becoming synonymous with the local gaming scene.
From 27 to 29 November, rAge will be back at Fourways Mall, not just as South Africa’s biggest gaming expo, but as a full-on festival celebrating gaming, esports, technology, and digital culture.
While gaming stays at the heart of it all, the event will branch out to feature creators, anime, cosplay, live entertainment, tech showcases, family fun, and interactive experiences.
The transformation marks one of the biggest rebrands in the event’s 23-year history and reflects how gaming itself has evolved.
More Than a Gaming Expo

Today’s gamers watch esports tournaments, follow livestreamers, create content, attend cosplay competitions, build online communities and engage with technology far beyond the console.
rAge’s new direction acknowledges this shift.
Rather than serving only hardcore gamers, the 2026 edition has been designed for a broader audience, including families, casual gamers, anime fans, creators, tech enthusiasts and first-time visitors.
The result is an experience that feels less like a traditional exhibition and more like an entertainment festival built around gaming culture.
Mettlestate Signals a New Era
A major driver behind this transformation is rAge’s new strategic partnership with Mettlestate, one of South Africa’s leading esports and gaming community organisations.
The partnership combines rAge’s long-standing reputation with Mettlestate’s expertise in esports, competitive gaming, creator engagement and community building.
“This isn’t simply another edition of rAge; it is a bold reinvention of what a gaming event can be,” says Barry Louzada, Managing Director of Mettlestate.
“While gaming remains the beating heart of rAge, every part of the experience has been reimagined to reflect how gaming culture has evolved. Today’s gamers don’t just play games. They also watch esports, follow creators, build communities, embrace technology, celebrate cosplay, create content and experience gaming as a culture that extends far beyond the screen.”
The partnership positions rAge to compete with international gaming festivals that combine entertainment, community and competition under one roof.
A Brand Evolution Beyond the Logo
The transformation isn’t limited to the event itself.

rAge has unveiled a refreshed visual identity that reflects its evolution from a traditional gaming expo into a modern entertainment brand.
The updated branding introduces a bolder, more immersive look while preserving the heritage that has made rAge one of South Africa’s most recognised gaming events.
For event brands, visual identity plays an important role in signalling change.
Rather than abandoning its legacy, rAge’s rebrand builds on more than two decades of equity while presenting a more contemporary image that resonates with today’s gaming audience.
Gaming Culture Is Bigger Than Gaming

Importantly, rAge is keeping the experiences that built its reputation.
The iconic BYOC LAN, esports tournaments, cosplay competitions, tabletop gaming, local game developers, technology showcases, and gaming specials will all remain central to the event.
“We’ve spent 23 years building one of South Africa’s most recognised gaming brands,” says Michael James, Project Director of rAge.
“Now we are taking the biggest step in our history. Together with Mettlestate, we’re creating something that extends far beyond an expo. We’re building a festival that celebrates every part of gaming culture.”
Rather than replacing what made rAge successful, the organisers are expanding upon it.
What It Means for Brands
Gaming has become one of the world’s largest entertainment industries, influencing fashion, music, sport, technology and social media.
That makes gaming festivals increasingly attractive to brands looking to engage younger, digitally connected audiences.
Instead of relying on traditional exhibition booths, rAge 2026 will offer brands opportunities to create immersive experiences, creator collaborations, esports activations and interactive campaigns that become part of the visitor journey.
