Luxury brands are no longer competing for attention through advertising alone.
They’re competing for cultural relevance.
Brands that resonate most today immerse themselves in music, fashion, nightlife, and creative communities. They become part of conversations that shape culture.
Instead of just sponsoring the event, this approach taps into the culture. For many brands, the Durban July is seen as a one-day marketing opportunity.
That’s the strategy Rémy Martin embraced with its “Two Cities.
The Spirit campaign spanned a multi-week cultural journey which ended during the Hollywoodbets Durban July, a premier South African lifestyle and fashion event.
Rather than treating the Durban July as a standalone activation, the cognac brand used it as the climax of a campaign that began on World Cognac Day and unfolded across music, nightlife, fashion and shared experiences.
More Than an Event: A Cultural Journey
The campaign centered on the idea that different cities, cultures, and creative influences could come together through a shared spirit.
Two Cities. One Spirit. This campaign captures the magic that unfolds when diverse cultures, lively cities, and distinctive creative influences come together, united by a shared sense of spirit.
At the heart of the campaign were cultural ambassadors Que DJ and Asvnte, whose music carried the energy and identity of Two Cities. One Spirit.

Throughout Durban July weekend, the pair helped connect audiences across some of Durban’s most influential cultural spaces, creating experiences that reflected the campaign’s central idea: bringing different influences together through one shared rhythm.
A Weekend Designed Around Experience
Instead of concentrating its presence in a single location, Rémy Martin activated across Durban over several days.
According to Amaury Vinclet, General Manager of Rémy Martin, the campaign reflects the values that have long defined the Maison. “We are proud to launch ‘Two Cities. One Spirit.’, an initiative that perfectly embodies the spirit of Rémy Martin VSOP. This unique collaboration between Durban and Los Angeles, driven by talents like Asvnte and Que DJ, is an ode to creativity and cultural connection, values dear to Rémy Martin and resonating with the balance of our eaux-de-vie.”
The experience began with an intimate dinner at The Room, honoring Asvnte and setting the tone for the weekend.
Defined by refined hospitality, meaningful conversation, and the Maison’s enduring spirit of conviviality, the evening set the tone for the weekend ahead.

On Friday, guests gathered at Brown Sugar, where music and culture took center stage as Durban’s creative community came together.

On Saturday, Rémy Martin hosted guests at the Opulence Marquee during the Hollywoodbets Durban July, then kept the festivities going into the night at Envy, one of Durban’s most popular nightlife spots.

The weekend concluded with an exclusive yacht experience along Durban’s coastline before closing at Mkhize’s Rooftop, where media, partners, and cultural taste makers reflected on the journey that had unfolded over several days.
Each activation was crafted to be more than just a one-off event, serving instead as the next chapter in the campaign.
Luxury Branding Through Shared Experiences
Over the past decade, luxury marketing has undergone a major shift. Consumers, especially younger ones, now value experiences over traditional advertising. They connect with brands through culture rather than conventional campaigns.
Rémy Martin embraced this change by creating curated experiences centered on music, fashion, conversation, and hospitality. It moved away from merely promoting a product.
The campaign ended up feeling engaging and participatory, rather than just promotional. It highlights Rémy Martin VSOP, a cognac crafted by blending various eaux-de-vie into a rich, smooth masterpiece.
That same philosophy drove the campaign, uniting cities, people, and creative influences into one cohesive cultural experience.
