I recently spent a week with the Mahindra Scorpio-N 4×4, aptly named the Big Daddy of SUVs. During my time with it, I took a drive to Haarties, experiencing firsthand how it handles both city streets and off-road terrains. Mahindra has made a bold statement in the SUV segment with this rugged and stylish machine that delivers on performance, comfort, and capability, making it an attractive option for adventure seekers and daily drivers alike.
Mahindra Scorpion-N Design & Exterior

The Mahindra Scorpio-N boasts a commanding road presence with its muscular stance, bold front grille, and aggressive LED headlamps. Its sculpted lines and high ground clearance give it an authoritative look, further enhanced by robust skid plates and stylish alloy wheels. The overall design reflects Mahindra’s commitment to blending toughness with sophistication.
Interior & Comfort

Step inside, and you’re welcomed by a premium and spacious cabin. The seats are well-cushioned, offering excellent support for long drives. A standout feature is the sunroof, which adds a sense of openness to the cabin. Rear passengers are not forgotten, thanks to the rear air conditioning vents, ensuring a comfortable ride for all occupants.
The dashboard is well-laid-out, featuring a modern infotainment system with a touchscreen display, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. The audio system delivers crisp sound, enhancing the overall driving experience. There are ample storage spaces and thoughtful touches, such as wireless charging and multiple USB ports, making it a practical choice for both city commutes and long road trips.
Performance & Driving Experience
Under the hood, the Scorpio-N is powered by a robust 2.2L mHawk diesel engine, delivering impressive torque and power. The 4×4 capability makes it an absolute beast on rough terrains, handling off-road adventures with ease. The suspension is well-tuned, ensuring a comfortable and stable ride on highways and dirt roads alike.
The steering is responsive, and the SUV handles well even at high speeds. One of the most impressive aspects of the Scorpio-N is its ability to tackle steep inclines, muddy trails, and rocky paths without breaking a sweat.
However, the one downside to its driving experience is the auto stop/start feature. While designed for fuel efficiency, it comes with a noticeable lag. When restarting, the power takes about 5 seconds to kick in, which can be frustrating in stop-and-go traffic or at intersections. This is something Mahindra could refine in future updates.
Safety & Technology
Safety has been a priority for Mahindra, and the Scorpio-N comes well-equipped with multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, hill descent control, traction control, and electronic stability control (ESC). These features provide reassurance whether driving in urban conditions or off the beaten path.
On the technology front, the Scorpio-N integrates connected car features, a digital instrument cluster, and a 360-degree camera, making maneuvering in tight spots much easier. The SUV also includes cruise control, keyless entry, and a push-start button, adding convenience to the overall package.
Pricing
The Mahindra Scorpion N is keenly priced starting from R489,999.
Does it get a Pat or a Slap?
The Mahindra Scorpio-N 4×4 is undoubtedly a game-changer in its segment. With its rugged capabilities, premium interior, and strong on-road and off-road performance, it lives up to its “Big Daddy of SUVs” moniker. While the auto stop/start lag is a minor drawback, it doesn’t take away from the SUV’s overall appeal. It’s a Pat from me
If you’re looking for a powerful, feature-packed, and adventure-ready SUV, the Scorpio-N 4×4 is a solid choice. Mahindra has truly raised the bar, offering a compelling alternative to established competitors at an attractive price point.
