Black At Launches “Through Her Lens” to Advance Women in the Global Creative Industry

Global organisation Black At has launched Through Her Lens, a new initiative to empower women across the creative industry. The program aims to address structural inequalities and increase leadership opportunities for women worldwide.

It focuses on 38 subsectors of the creative economy, including advertising, brand management, media, technology, film, music, and design. The initiative aligns with UN Women’s Unstereotype Alliance and the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 5 on gender equality.

Through Her Lens does more than create conversation. It aims for real, measurable change. The program offers mentorship, leadership development, funding access, and global visibility for women professionals.

Global Rollout Across Creative Hubs

Through Her Lens will launch across multiple cities, connecting leaders from private companies, governments, NGOs, and financial institutions. The rollout includes:

  • Lagos, Nigeria

  • Cape Town, South Africa

  • São Paulo, Brazil

  • Cannes, France during the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity

  • New York City, USA during the United Nations General Assembly

The initiative connects regional talent to global opportunities. It encourages collaboration and helps women access leadership roles in creative sectors.

Lagos Launch Marks the Start

The first event takes place 30 March in Lagos, during Women’s Month. Leaders from across the creative and corporate worlds will discuss ways to build inclusive workplaces and expand opportunities for women.

Peter Ukhurebor, CEO of Black At, said:
“Creativity knows no gender or borders. Through Her Lens ensures women are included and empowered to lead.”

Industry Leaders Call for Change

Marketing director Sarah Agha of Nigerian Breweries Plc noted that creativity thrives on bold stories. She added, “It combines art, science, and courage. This shapes how we build brands and partnerships in our market.”

Meanwhile, Elspeth I’Anson from the Unstereotype Alliance emphasized the need for structural change. She said too few women hold senior creative or leadership roles. “Companies with gender-equal leadership and inclusive practices outperform peers and unlock new growth opportunities,” she explained.

Uche Nwuka, General Manager at the Bank of Industry Nigeria, highlighted financing gaps. She said that improved business activity has attracted investors. “We provide funding and advisory support to expand opportunities for women in creative projects,” she added.

A Holistic Approach to Change

Through Her Lens integrates multiple strategies:

  • Leadership and representation advocacy

  • Creative education and mentorship

  • Access to funding and financial support

  • Global platform visibility

  • Partnerships with public and private sectors

By connecting talent to resources and networks, Black At strengthens women’s roles in shaping the global creative economy. The initiative is designed to produce measurable impact, ensuring women lead, innovate, and thrive.
