In a heartfelt career move that has stirred both celebration and sentiment, respected broadcaster Aldrin Sampear has officially announced his departure from television broadcasting channel Newzroom Afrika to serve the nation in a new capacity — as a public servant at the Department of Tourism.
From Prime Time to Public Service

Taking to social media platform X, Sampear shared the news with his followers, expressing deep gratitude for the support he has received throughout his broadcasting career.
“While this moment is about me, I want to send a warm hug to my cheerleaders who have been saddened by my exit from broadcasting. I promise to make you proud again,” he wrote.
Known for his sharp interviewing style and fearless approach to current affairs, Sampear has earned his place as one of South Africa’s most respected voices in journalism. Now, he is redirecting that passion towards building the country in a new way.
From Broadcasting to Nation-Building
Sampear revealed that he has joined the Department of Tourism under the leadership of Minister Patricia de Lille — a shift that aligns closely with his personal journey and purpose.
“This beautiful nation has done so much for me. I’m indebted,” he shared.
“State policies like social grants and free primary healthcare helped pull me out of poverty, and journalism was the vehicle. My life is a testimony of God’s love for us, and now I get to say THANK YOU in a BIG WAY and help pull more people up with me.”
His move highlights a growing trend among influential South Africans who are leveraging their platforms and lived experiences to play a more active role in public service and policy implementation.
A Legacy of Purpose
We believe that true branding is about impact — and Aldrin Sampear’s next chapter is a powerful example of a personal brand rooted in purpose. From telling the country’s most urgent stories to now shaping how the world experiences South Africa through tourism, Sampear continues to inspire.
His story reminds us that the journey to iconic status is not always linear — sometimes, it’s about pivoting when the calling becomes louder.
We wish Aldrin Sampear all the best in this new chapter and salute him for choosing service over spotlight.
