inDrive South Africa is investing R6 million to transform an undeveloped site in Naledi into a new recreational park, marking a significant step in the company’s commitment to community development.
The inDrive Soweto community park project, developed in partnership with Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo (JCPZ), officially broke ground on 28 October 2026.
The initiative will transform a 2.6-hectare site into a multifunctional recreational space where children can play, residents can exercise and families can spend time outdoors.
Located at PK2707 Nape Street, Stand 376, in Naledi, the site currently has no public amenities. The development aims to improve access to recreational facilities while creating a welcoming environment for the surrounding community.
inDrive Soweto Park Project Brings R6 Million Investment to Naledi
The R6 million investment forms part of inDrive’s efforts to contribute to the communities where its mobility platform operates.
Through its partnership with Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo, the company aims to turn unused land into a valuable public space that supports recreation, wellbeing and community connection.
Ashif Black, Country Representative at inDrive South Africa, explained that the company’s relationship with communities should extend beyond providing transport services.
“Moving people through a community also means becoming part of that community, and we believe that relationship should extend beyond the journeys people take with us,” said Black.
He added that the partnership provides an opportunity to create a space where children can play, people can exercise and neighbours can connect.
The project reflects a broader approach to corporate social investment, focusing on infrastructure that can continue benefiting residents beyond a once-off community activation.

How the inDrive Soweto Park Will Develop Over Three Years
The new community park will be developed in three phases between 2026 and 2028, allowing recreational facilities to be introduced progressively.
Phase 1 – 2026: Groundbreaking and Initial Development
The first phase marks the beginning of the transformation of the 2.6-hectare site.
Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo has committed the land to the project without parallel third-party development, providing a foundation for the planned recreational space.
Phase 2 – 2027: Continued Park Development
The second phase will focus on continuing the development of the park as part of the broader three-year plan.
The partnership aims to create a multifunctional environment that can accommodate different recreational needs within the community.
Phase 3 – 2028: Planned Football Field
The final phase is expected to include the addition of a football field, expanding opportunities for sport and physical activity.
Once the planned phases are completed, the park is intended to serve residents of Naledi and surrounding communities.
Johannesburg Mayor Welcomes the Naledi Park Investment
Johannesburg Executive Mayor Councillor Dada Morero has welcomed the partnership, emphasising the importance of accessible and safe recreational spaces.
“A child’s opportunity to play safely should never depend on their postcode,” said Morero.
He noted that the investment recognises the dignity of local residents and the importance of public spaces where families can gather with confidence.
The initiative brings together private-sector funding and municipal involvement to support the development of community infrastructure.
For residents, the proposed park represents an opportunity to turn previously unused land into a shared public asset.
Why the inDrive Soweto Investment Matters Beyond Mobility
Although inDrive is primarily known for its mobility services, the Naledi development demonstrates how businesses can contribute to the communities they serve beyond their core operations.
The investment is intended to support a lasting recreational facility rather than a temporary brand activation.
Public parks can provide opportunities for physical activity, social interaction and outdoor recreation, particularly in neighbourhoods where access to suitable facilities is limited.
By supporting the development of a community park, inDrive is connecting its brand with a project intended to deliver practical benefits to residents.
The partnership also highlights the role that collaboration between businesses and local government can play in improving neighbourhood infrastructure.
Creating a Lasting Recreational Space for Naledi Residents
The inDrive Soweto community park initiative is designed to grow into a space that serves children, families and residents with different recreational needs.
Its phased development will allow the project to expand over the coming years, with a football field planned as part of the final stage in 2028.
Beyond the financial investment, the project aims to encourage outdoor activity, community interaction and pride in shared public spaces.
For inDrive, the development represents an opportunity to strengthen its relationship with local communities through an investment intended to create long-term social value.
For Naledi residents, it marks the beginning of a planned transformation of unused land into a recreational destination.
As construction progresses, the success of the initiative will depend on the completion of the proposed facilities and their ability to serve the community over time.
The investment highlights how businesses can contribute to community development beyond their core services. Explore more South African brand initiatives on Pat on Brands, and learn more about the mobility platform through the official inDrive website.
