TikTok One South Africa is giving local creators, brands and agencies a more structured way to work together, opening new opportunities around creator discovery, brand campaigns and commercial content.
TikTok recently put the platform in the spotlight at its TikTok 360 event in Johannesburg on 22 September 2026. While some recent reports have described TikTok One as a new launch, the platform became available locally earlier in 2026.
The bigger story is what TikTok One South Africa could mean for the country’s growing creator economy.
What Is TikTok One South Africa?
TikTok One brings creators, brands and agencies together within one creator-marketing ecosystem.
For brands, it provides tools to discover creators and develop creator-led campaigns. For creators, it creates additional ways to find commercial opportunities, respond to brand briefs and potentially earn from content they have already produced.
Importantly, TikTok One does not mean South African creators are automatically paid simply because their videos receive views. Earnings depend on the specific commercial opportunity and its requirements.
How TikTok One South Africa Works for Brands
For marketers, TikTok One South Africa could simplify parts of the creator discovery and campaign process.
Instead of relying only on manually searching social media or approaching creators through direct messages, brands can use TikTok’s ecosystem to identify talent for campaigns.
It also changes how brands can think about creators.
Rather than viewing an influencer only as someone who posts a sponsored message to their followers, brands can work with creators as creative partners capable of producing content that can potentially become part of a wider advertising campaign.
That means follower count isn’t the only consideration. The ability to create content that attracts attention and performs can also matter.
Three TikTok One South Africa Opportunities for Creators
Creators can access different types of commercial opportunities through TikTok One South Africa.
Spark Opportunity
Spark Opportunity can allow creators to potentially earn from videos they have already published.
If a brand discovers an eligible creator video and wants to use it as a Spark Ad, the creator can receive an invitation to authorise the content.
Local reporting indicates that certain Spark Opportunities can be available from 500 followers, although eligibility and campaign requirements can vary.
Authorising content also does not automatically guarantee payment. The advertiser still needs to activate the content as part of a campaign.
Creative Challenge
Creative Challenge allows eligible creators to produce new content in response to a brand brief.
Creators can participate in campaigns and develop content according to an advertiser’s requirements. Local reporting around the South African platform has indicated a 1,000-follower threshold for Creative Challenge, although individual campaigns may have additional requirements.
This gives brands another way to find creators based not only on audience size, but also on their ability to produce effective TikTok content.
Creator Led Package
Creator Led Package brings agencies into TikTok One South Africa.
Approved creator-marketing agencies can invite creators to participate in campaigns based on individual brand requirements.
This means TikTok One isn’t necessarily cutting agencies out of influencer marketing. Instead, direct creator relationships and agency-managed campaigns can exist within the same ecosystem.
How Do TikTok One South Africa Creators Get Paid?
There isn’t one standard amount that creators earn through TikTok One South Africa.
Payment depends on the opportunity. TikTok’s creator projects can involve different structures, including fixed payments, performance-related compensation or combinations of payment models.
TikTok has reported strong global growth for TikTok One. Between June 2025 and May 2026, the number of creators receiving rewards through the platform increased by 90% year-on-year.
However, those are global numbers.
TikTok has not yet disclosed a figure showing how much South African creators are earning through the platform.
That distinction matters because TikTok One should not be presented as guaranteed income for creators.
Why TikTok One South Africa Matters for Brands
TikTok One South Africa arrives as the relationship between brands and creators continues to evolve.
Traditionally, influencer marketing has placed significant emphasis on followers, reach and engagement. Those metrics remain important, but creator-led advertising introduces another consideration: Can the creator make content that works?
A smaller creator who understands TikTok’s culture, trends, humour and editing style could potentially produce valuable creative work for a brand.
That could encourage marketers to look beyond traditional influencer endorsements and treat creators as part of the creative process.
For South African brands trying to reach digital audiences, particularly younger consumers, that represents an interesting shift.

From Influencers to Creative Partners
TikTok One also reflects a broader transformation of the creator economy.
Creators can increasingly operate as entertainers, presenters, entrepreneurs, community builders and creative partners.
Their commercial value doesn’t necessarily stop with the audience following their account. Their ability to create content that brands can use and amplify is becoming increasingly important.
For marketers, the question may therefore move beyond “How many followers does this creator have?”
Increasingly, another question matters:
“Can this creator make content people actually want to watch?”

What’s Next for TikTok One South Africa?
TikTok One South Africa gives creators another route into commercial brand opportunities while giving advertisers another way to discover and collaborate with local creative talent.
But the real test will be adoption.
Brands will need to decide how creator-produced content fits into their marketing strategies, agencies will need to establish where they add value, and creators will need to understand how individual opportunities, payments and content rights work.
TikTok has provided the infrastructure. What happens next will depend on how South Africa’s brands and creators choose to use it.
As TikTok One South Africa creates new ways for brands and creators to collaborate, it also highlights TikTok’s growing influence on marketing, culture and digital conversations.
