Suzuki Auto SA Teams Up with Orlando Pirates

Suzuki Auto South Africa has officially joined the Orlando Pirates family, stepping in as the official vehicle partner of one of Mzansi’s most loved football clubs. This two-year partnership is more than a handshake — it’s a full embrace of shared values, national pride, and community upliftment.

Making a Statement on the Sleeve

As part of the deal, Suzuki will also hold the title of Official Premium Sleeve Partner, with its logo boldly featured on the Pirates’ matchday kit. It’s a move that puts the Suzuki brand front and centre, right in the heart of the action — visible on the sleeves but felt far deeper in the hearts of fans.

More Than Branding – A Shared Purpose

Speaking on the partnership, Henno Havenga, GM of Auto Sales and Marketing at Suzuki Auto SA, said:

“We are honoured to align with a club that shares our values of excellence, resilience, and community. This partnership represents more than just a branding exercise – it’s about connecting with South Africans from all walks of life through the shared passion of football.”

Legacy Meets Legacy

Founded in 1937, Orlando Pirates is not just a football team — it’s a movement. With nine PSL titles and 13 MTN 8 wins, the club has built a legacy that spans generations. And for Thandi Merafe, the club’s Media and PR Manager, partnerships like this are about creating value for supporters on and off the pitch:

“Suzuki is a brand that understands the importance of local connection and national pride – qualities that align closely with what it means to be part of the Orlando Pirates family.”

Suzuki’s Playbook of Purpose-Driven Sponsorships

This isn’t Suzuki’s first step into the sporting arena — it’s part of a larger, deliberate game plan.

  • April 2025: Announced as official vehicle partner for Cricket South Africa, supporting both the Proteas Men’s and Women’s ODI teams.

  • 2024: Became naming sponsor of the historic Griqualand West Rugby Union (Griquas).

  • Grassroots Rugby: Currently backing a nine-month development programme in partnership with the Humanitarian Empowerment Fund, aimed at shaping Rugby Sevens talent in Gauteng’s West Rand schools.

“Once a Pirate, Always a Pirate”

Suzuki’s approach to sport sponsorship is deeply rooted in empowerment and community development. For Havenga, it’s all about legacy:

“Sport has the unique ability to unite people and drive positive change in communities. This is something Suzuki really takes to heart. Once a Pirate always a Pirate – up the Bucs!”

Final Whistle

With the Orlando Pirates partnership now in full swing, Suzuki continues to show that it’s not just about selling cars – it’s about driving impact where it matters most. One community, one goal, one nation.
